Season 1 Episode :08 Breaking The Myths Behind Salt

Living Every Bite Podcast Show

Interview with Dr. Nakia- Breaking The Myths Behind Salt

If you can change your mind, you can change your life. It is about enjoying where you are on the way to where youre going.Dr. Nakia is a very motivated health care professional who uses food as medicine, including salt, despite the negative reputation it has sadly acquired.

Salt is not bad for us; in fact, our body needs salt. Too much of anything can be unhealthy. Water retention and swelling in the body may result from consumption of too much salt. However, a healthy body is designed with mechanisms for managing the excess, and drinking plenty of water can help to remove excess salt.

Although there are reportedly 12 different salts, only two major categories of salt exist: true salt and shady salt. True salt is presented in the way that it naturally exists within the earth, containing sodium chloride in addition to potassium, magnesium, and many other trace minerals. It is a complete salt. Shady salt is processed salt, typically containing only sodium chloride, and may contain other unnecessary substances. It does not contain the trace minerals present in true salt; therefore, it is not a complete salt.

Breaking The Myths Behind Salt

Table salt is shady salt produced by excessive processing and the use of additives. In contrast, sea salt is true salt, which is produced by evaporating ocean water. Sea salt is more flavorful and has different minerals. This salt has a color other than the plain white color of table salt that we have traditionally seen. Real Salt (manufactured by Redmond Trading Co.), an unrefined, pinkish salt, comes from an ancient ocean salt deposit. Himalayan salt comes from salt deposits near the Himalayan mountain range in Pakistan.

In order to maintain the already present salt level in our body, we need to maintain a regular intake of salt. Our body uses the salt that we eat; for example, blood, urine, and sweat contain salt. When these substances are released from our body, this is an example of the body losing salt. Therefore, our salt supply must be restored in order to replace what we have used or lost.

Breaking The Myths Behind Salt

In 2011, The Journal of Neuroscience conducted a study on rats that led researchers to the conclusion that adequate salt intake in our body is likely to lower stress hormones and raise oxytocin (the love hormone) levels. Therefore, we conclude that salt not only helps us to live, but also to love.

We must make an effort to eat less processed food, which typically contains shady salt. Everyone should know that our body needs and loves TRUE SALT!!!

And how about we get into todays message

Fruit Picking, am I the right one?

Oh man, its crowded up in here. Let me hurry up and get what I got to get and get out of here; its just too crowded up in here today. Okay, what I came in here for? I came in here for a pineapple. Alright, so I got to find the right one, lets see. Whats going on over there? Alright, let me stay focused. Alright, pineapple. Somebody told me that when youre looking for the right pineapple, you have to smell the bottom of the fruit. And it should smell like pineapple juice, should have like that distinct pineapple smell. Oh yeah and I remember this other thing the scent is supposed to find me rather than me finding it.

Man, I smell no pineapple up in here. Oh wait, hold up, I am smelling something. Okay, I must be in the right spot right now. Oh theres one last thing I have to gently squeeze the pineapple and it should have a small amount of give. Alright, let me check this one out right here; this one look like a nice one.

Oh yeah, I smell it that pineapple juice, and it has the right amount of give. Alright, you are going in the bag. Oh, there he [04:00] is again; I am out of here.

Fruit Picking- Am I The Right One?

The example, the scenario that you just heard can be compared to our lives. Each and every one of us have a job to do just like that pineapples job is to supply us with nutrients that we need for our bodies. Its food for us; it has a job with supplying us and other living things with food, its our food. So we as people, we have a job to do. And there are some distinctions with each and every one of us that will determine whether or not were the right one, whether or not we are the right one for the job.

You see, in life, it doesnt matter whether youre a mother, a sister, a daughter, an aunt, a cook, homemaker, labor, business owner, we all have jobs to do. How do you know if youre the right person for the job? Well Ill tell you five things; five things that can help you determine if youre the right person for the job because each and every one of us has a job to do. But the question is, are you the right person for the job that youre trying to do.

1. Am I self-motivated? Are you the type that has to be watched in order to get going? Are you leading or following? You see because if youre the right person for the job then no one has to pressure you, push you to do what you know you have to do. Youre going to be self-motivated. Youre going to get going, and youre going to get the job done.

2. Am I willing to do whats required, going above and beyond whats expected? Are you the right person for the job? Focus on how you can help. How you can add value to someone else, and going above and beyond whats expected of you is easy. Are you the right person for the job?

3. Am I steadfast and persistent [06:00] regardless of what others think? Will I allow that to define who I am or what Im called to do? We have to put the focus on ourselves. We cant be focused on what other people think about us, that doesnt even matter; thats irrelevant. We cant control what other people say or do; we can only control ourselves. So what do you do in this situation? Emphasize what makes you unique in a positive manner without attacking or insulting others because this is about you. Are you the right person for the job?

4. Can I handle negativity, setbacks, and down times? You know things dont always go the way we want it to go. There are many times when we have set out to do something we have it all planned out, and it just does not go the way we want it to go. Well, what do you do? These are moments that should be opportunities to get creative. Every problem poses an opportunity for a unique solution. Let me say that again every problem poses an opportunity for a unique solution. Are you the right person for the job?

5. Is my passion, my zeal, my love reflected in my work? Can we tell that you love what you do? Is it obvious, or do we have to guess? Do work that excites you, do work where time is always your friend. No one should ever have to ask you if you love what you do. Your work should speak for itself.

Being the right person means you recognize your ability to excel within your unique style. Being the right person means you recognize [08:00] that everything needs refinement and even THE BEST look to improve. Being the right one means that when we go looking for you, youre going to be smelling right, youre going to have that right amount of give, where we going to know ah yes; this is the right one. This is the one I need to take with me. This is the one I need to work with. This is the one I need to go to when I need help in this area. Yes, thats the right one. Dont let us guess, dont let us wonder. Show them, show everybody that you are the right one for the job. Hey, youre listening to

Season 1 Episode 04: 7 Personality Traits Described Using Food

Living Every Bite Podcast Show

7 Personality Traits Described Using Food

In this episode Ill be talking about 7 personality traits and describe them using food. Food is such an important part of our lives.

Many of us base activities around food and often feel our day is not complete unless weve had a nice hearty meal.

7 Personality Traits Described Using Food

When I think of food, I think of it having a life of its own. The foods we eat comes from the earth we live in.

In order for these foods to live and thrive they need certain conditions, environments, care and some wont come to full maturity without

the help of another within its growing network. As you can see, food has similarities that we personally can relate to and with this in mind,

I thought to compare them to our personalities as human beings.

I hope you find this episode as enlightening, fun and entertaining as I did delivering it.

Live Your Best Life,

Miranda

Season 1 Episode 03: Chicken Alive

Living Every Bite Podcast Show

Chicken Alive

Here is where the rubber meets the road. In episode 3, Chicken Alive, I share my experience of witnessing what I call

a food disaster gone viral. Im talkin the best chicken in Nashville. so I was told.

I absolutely love food and appreciate seeing others celebrate their love of food by dishing up the best that they have to offer.

In Chicken Alive that expectation of seeing the best went south; downhill that is and I refuse to follow.

Although we might not all agree on whats considered great food or not, theres one thing we can all agree on and thats food was made for eating.

Whatever we eat should not only benefit our bodies but be tasty and enjoyable.

I eat with my eyes, nose and then my mouth. All of these senses play a part in my acceptance of a dish as well as my desire to taste it.

Did you know that sight alone can influence our perception of food? Perception via sight usually goes like this, if it looks great then

Im expecting it to taste great but if it looks bad, it must taste like garbage! Do you see my point?

Presentation is EVERYTHING.

Chicken Alive

Well, sit back and get comfy. I had fun sharing this episode. Chicken Alive is like a great story

brought to life. Its fun, its vivid and surprisingly hilarious.

May your listening ears be fulfilled!

If you enjoy the show, share with a friend and be sure to subscribe, rate and review.

Until next time,

Miranda

Season 1 Episode 02: Inspiring Hearts

Living Every Bite Podcast Show

Inspiring Hearts

Looking at something at face value doesnt always depict the truth of a matter.

Its easy to assume we know better or that our judgements are fair, but unless

we place ourselves in the other persons shoes theres no way we can understand.

Help, compassion, care and concern comes from the lowly; the bottom up and not

the top down. We have to be willingly to meet people where they are.

See from their perspective.

Inspiring Hearts

Listen, as I learn these little lessons in my daily interactions, my seemly

insignificant routines. Inspiring hearts is simply the stirring of the conscious mind;

the process of thought which is the prerequisite to action. Our hearts are designed

to receive whatever we put in them. What we place in our hearts is what we will think,

speak and ultimately do. How great is this heart? A heart thats the size of a clinched fist and

beats approxmately 100,000 per day. It has been said that the heart is deceitful and desperately

wicked. This is true when the heart is left detached from the mind. Im inspiring hearts today.

Inspiring hearts through a process called purpose.

Think, feel, do, yes

and reap blessings.

Using your heart on purpose.

-Inspiring Hearts

Season 1 Episode 01: The Nerve to Serve

Living Every Bite Podcast Show

The Nerve to Serve

*transcribed show notes

Hey, this is Miranda with Living Every bite where we talk about food, health and lifes purpose. Im here to get you out your seat and on your feet. If you could change your mind you could change your life. Im giving you the tools to make a decision. Im a mother of seven and Im a full-time entrepreneur and blogger at www.thelivingdiet.net

Join me every week where we going to have talks, conversations, motivations and interviews with some of my friends, doctors and women entrepreneurs. Its about enjoying where you are on the way to where youre going. And if you ask me, enjoyment is always better over food.

Whats up everyone, this is your host Miranda Simon and welcome to episode one. I am so excited that youre here to join me today. The topic were going to cover is The Nerve to Serve. Now let me just tell you a little bit about how I came up with this title. I was watching an episode of Oprah where she was interviewing this guy by the name of Wes Moore and in this interview an important question was asked. The question was somewhere along the lines of many people are looking for ways to get meaning to their life, for their life to have meaning and for their life to have purpose. And then the question was asked How do you think a person gets to a point to where their life has meaning and purpose? And the answer that was given was The only way I know for a person to get there is through service

And in that I thought about it and couple of other things were said such as Whenever youre going through life youre always trying to find your calling and trying to find what youre great at. And one of the key things to when you find something that youre great at, one of the key things thats going to occur is youre going to be willing to do it no matter what. And thats what I call the nerve to serve. That is the motivation behind this title.

Were going to get into it today, Im going to give you some tips; were going to talk about seven foods that put you in the mood to serve other people. So these are just going to be seven foods were going to cover and were going to try to get it down. These are things that help you. This is not the cure all for you to want to serve people, but this is just some little help, some little tips and some little tools resources that get us going. So were going to talk about the seven foods that just put us in the mood to serve. It just puts us in such a great mood that were just willing to sit there and say what can I do for you and how can I help you. So were going to talk about it.

  1. Berries

The first food that put you in the mood is Berries. Lets talk about the benefits of berries. Berries keep you mentally sharp; they have a type of flavonoids that are found in berries that have the ability to cross the brain barrier. Thats an area located where the learning and memory centres in the brain are. Berries are great source of fibre and important for healthy digestive system.

When I think about berries Im reminded of when I lived in Greenville Mississippi and there was this little restaurant that was sort of shaped like a cottage, like a little house that I like to go to and I would go there to get their Black Berry cobbler. They had the best Black Berry cobbler and then they will put a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of that cobbler and I just went there straight for the cobbler. I dont even care what else was on the menu, I was super excited to get over there to that restaurant just to get myself some of that hot cobbler with that vanilla ice cream just put right on top and thats what Im talking about. Were talking about getting you in the mood and putting you in the mood to serve.

  1. Dark Chocolate

Now you ever wonder why when theres that holiday that comes around. You know what Im talking about, it just past, Valentines Day. During that holiday chocolate was everywhere and chocolate covered everything. Why is that? It is because chocolate has the ability to just get you excited and get you in a nice mood. And some of the benefits are;

  • Dark chocolate improves heart health.
  • It improves blood flow.
  • It lowers blood pressure.
  • It also contains high amounts of iron; magnesium, potassium and zinc just name a few.
  • Also it reduces the stress hormone cortisol.

This is according to the Journal of Proteome research.

  1. Apples

Youve heard that an apple a day keeps doctor away. Have you ever heard about that? It does not only keep the doctor away, but it puts you in a great mood and lets talk about some of the benefits of apples;

  • Eating apples produces a calming effect.
  • They also create more energy and increase joy.

And this is according to the British Journal of Health Psychology.

So if youre having a bad day or a rough day, go to the store get, you some apples, wash them up, get them all nice and right and just eat some apples. I know some people have some different dietary needs, but these are again just some helps, these are some tips that will help put you in the mood to serve. Thats what were talking about, having the nerve to serve.

  1. Spinach

Yes eat your greens for life. When I think about spinach I think about this wonderful salad I used to like to fix. It was made of spinach, fresh strawberries on the top, I was sprinkling a little bit of sesame seeds and I would make my own vinegar to go over it. Im a serious foodie! But greens, especially spinach

  • contain folic acid which alleviates depression and it reduces fatigue.

Thats what Im talking about, you got to eat spinach. This one is not just for Popeye. You know they had that cartoon and it was all about Popeye eating the spinach to get himself strong. No people, this will help you not to be down in the dumps and dragging your feet. This can help boost your mood and puts you in a position to want to say, how I can help you, how can I serve you today, what can I do for you today. It will put you in the mood to serve.

  1. Salmon

Herb crusted Salmon thats all I could think about. Anybody been to the Cheesecake Factory where they have the Herb Crusted Salmon? You are going to have to visit the blog www.thelivingidiet.net. The recipe is there, Herb Crusted Salmon and do make your way there.

  • Salmon is full of Omega3 fatty acids which can improve your mood and help fight depression.

So heres another one that pulls us out of the dumps. There are also healthy effects that keep your hair fabulously shining and if you ask me great hair is just everything. Great hair, shining hair, hair that is looking right and that are not falling out, if thats not a mood booster, then I dont know what else is. So it gets my stamp of approval for mood boosting and its going to help you not to be depressed.

  1. Mushrooms

I have this stuffed mushroom recipe, but there was one particular item, I like to put the avocados in there. Put some avocados, chop it up, put little bit of tomatoes on top, get a little salt and a little pepper and then you want to take some of that liquid aminos. You need to go to the health food store and check out some Braggs Liquid Aminos, drizzle that over the top and go ahead and dig in. It gives it a nice flavour.

  • Mushroom is high in vitamin D.

Low levels of vitamin D has been linked to depression. So we know that if it is high in vitamin D and if its low levels bring us down to depression then we got to get some mushrooms in our diet. Were talking about getting the nerve to serve. Some of you might not like mushrooms, I do understand that, but it isnt going to hurt nobody. Just go ahead and try it out and it is always great to try something new. Try it a little differently. If you dont like mushrooms, try having mushrooms stuffed with some avocado and follow that little recipe that I told you real quick and you just might change your mind.

  1. Coffee

The last thing that helps boost our mood and put us in the mood to serve is coffee. Some might say coffee has an aquired taste. Some might say thats not healthy for me, I got to leave that coffee alone and it has too much caffeine. Let me tell you this research has disproved the belief that coffee is bad for your health. In fact 11/2015 study published in circulation found that

  • coffee consumption was associated with an 8-15% reduction in the risk of death with larger reductions among those with higher coffee consumption.

Were talking about seven foods that put you in the mood to serve and to give back. Were talking about having the nerve to serve on purpose and creating the life that you want. Hey, thats all my time I got for you today folks. Join me again next week. Thats it, thats my time and I will see you next week. Peace!

Lets see

Drink less coffee and lose life, drink more coffee, and gain life.

Ill take coffee for $500.
